The bright, thoughtfully designed Elementary classroom at Pinnacle Montessori of Sunnyvale offers children a clear view of nature while they remain engaged in purposeful learning. Our multi-age environment welcomes students ages 6 to 9, generally representing first, second, and third grades.
The Elementary years mark an important stage when children begin developing time-management, organizational, and personal responsibility skills. Students become increasingly responsible for completing their work, while teachers provide guidance to ensure they understand each lesson and learn how to manage their time effectively.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children should experience success before learning how to respond constructively to setbacks. In the classroom, a setback may be as simple as not completing a lesson within the expected time. Teachers introduce new concepts one step at a time, allowing children to build confidence without feeling overwhelmed.
During this stage, students gradually move beyond the concrete learning experiences of their earlier years. They begin exploring abstract ideas, deeper reasoning, independent research, and more advanced ways of thinking.
Language Arts: Grammar, reading comprehension, composition, reading, writing, vocabulary, and nomenclature
Mathematics: Mathematical operations, place value, fractions, decimals, and problem-solving
Cultural Studies: Science, history, timelines, maps, world cultures, flags, art, artists, musical composers, geography, landforms, and scientific experiments
Practical Life: Care of self, care of the environment, organization, responsibility, and time management
Peace Curriculum: Self-awareness, respectful communication, conflict resolution, and care for the community
These curriculum areas naturally connect, allowing children to explore subjects from several perspectives. Students have opportunities to plan and complete projects independently while also collaborating with their classmates.
During the Elementary years, students experience meaningful physical, emotional, social, and academic growth. The Montessori curriculum provides a strong foundation that supports children throughout future grades and beyond.
When students complete the Elementary program at Pinnacle Montessori of Sunnyvale, they leave prepared for their next academic adventure. Along with academic knowledge, they develop valuable skills in time management, organization, independence, communication, and personal responsibility.
Through the Peace Curriculum, children learn how to communicate respectfully, work through disagreements, and respond thoughtfully to social challenges. These lessons help them build healthy relationships and contribute positively to their classroom community.
Students also discover how to conduct research, find reliable answers, and experience the satisfaction of learning something new. They develop the confidence to work independently and the communication skills needed to collaborate successfully on group projects.
Unlock a world where your child can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. At Pinnacle Montessori of Sunnyvale, children gain the knowledge, confidence, and life skills they need to approach their future with curiosity and independence.
